Guest Post by Myra from My Blessed Life
One of my favorite things to do is to set a beautiful table. There are few things more welcoming to guests than a well-set, decorated table – whether it is for a dinner party or an event reception. This frugal tablescape tutorial is perfect for a spring or summer luncheon or party. And it is most definitely on the feminine side!
My basic frugal tip for creating a beautifully set table is to collect, collect, collect. I shop at thrift stores, yard sales and clearance aisles at retail stores for linens and unusual pieces. If you like it and it’s cheap (and in your “fun-money” budget), buy it. I also love to shop my own home…it’s much cheaper than automatically running to the store.
How To Create A Beautifully Frugal Table
1. Base – This gorgeous hemstitch tablecloth from Williams-Sonoma is my favorite. It was a wedding gift that has been used many times.
2. Linens – Use what you have or shop around for “out of season” items. I found this table runner, placemats and napkins on clearance last September at Target – it was love at first sight!
3. China – My oh-so-expensive white plates are from Walmart – just kidding on the expensive part! I found the colored salad plates for 0.99 each at a “junk store” near my house. Don’t you love the colors?
4. Glassware – Again, I don’t think that you have to spend $30 per stem for good looking glassware. My favorite iced beverage glasses are from Pier 1. If one breaks or gets chipped it’s not the end of the world.
5. Flatware – When my husband and I got married we never bought a complete set of flatware because of the price. So, I picked up a couple sets of flatware at Walmart and I don’t have to worry when my husband takes a fork to work and it never makes it home. Ha!
6. Napkin Rings – I love finding unusual items to use as napkin rings. I picked up 6 tiny grapevine wreaths at Hobby Lobby for $1.77. Aren’t they cute as napkin rings?
Frugal Centerpiece Idea
This centerpiece idea is simple and easy! I shopped my own house and found these cute yellow planters, a white candle stand and two white candles. I found grapevine wreaths at Hobby Lobby to act as “nests” around the base of the candles.
I used leftover eggs and flowers from my Unusual Hanging Egg Tree Craft project. To finish off the spring/Easter look, I added one bag of candy eggs around the base of one planter.
Note: You will notice that I turned one planter upside down because I couldn’t make the wreath look right when it was right side up. I also used a can of pinto beans inside the small planter to elevate the candle.
And now my table is set for spring!
Because of collecting things over the years, this tablescape and centerpiece only cost me about $5.00!

I tell Myra all the time that as soon as we meet each other in person, she’s taking me shopping. She is very talented!

This is beautiful and I can only aspire to do it, but I’m thinking techy blog stuff. How’d you do the line of pictures with numbers up there? Curious!
