Guest Post: Frugal Organizing Tips from @frugalplaygroun

March 10, 2010

Hello, Frugal Femina readers! I’m Kimberly from Frugal Playground to share a frugal tip with you.

It’s no secret that being organized helps you save money. If you know what you have and where you have it, you aren’t running to the store every time you need something. But who wants to pay for all that organizing paraphernalia?! I certainly don’t. Here are a couple of items we are re-purposing to help us in our organizing and money-saving endeavors.

1. Use empty kitty litter containers to help organize your garage.
Simply label the outside of the container and get organizing. I have one that we keep our tow ropes in, another for car lubricants, another for car fluids, etc. It’s been great to go to our shelf and easily find what we need. A bonus is that the items don’t get dusty and gross!

2. Use empty ramen noodle boxes to organize your pantry.
One box could be for JELL-O/pudding mixes, one drink mixes, canned veggies, canned fruit or whatever suits your specific means. I started off buying those white tubs, but found the boxes work just as well. I think I’m going to use them for organizing some of my son’s things, too.

Before you run off to buy something, stop and think if is there anything you could re-purpose to fill that need instead. You might be surprised at what you come up with.

What are your tips for staying organized on the cheap?
