Have I mentioned Tropical Traditions recently? No? Oh, good! Because I thought maybe it was time to let you know about their coconut oil. They sent me a sample of the Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil, and the first thing I did was make popcorn! That’s Mamavation friendly, right? Let me tell you, the smell of popcorn cooking in coconut oil…It doesn’t get much better than that.

I’ve heard of people putting coconut oil in their coffee, too. I haven’t tried it because our coffee maker bit the dust, and I am just too cheap frugal to buy a new one at the moment. But after giving coconut oil the ol’ taste test, I could see why that would be yummy. It’s very light, and you know I love anything with even a hint of coconut! It comes in more of a solid form, so that might surprise you, but Jessica from Good (& CHEAP) Eats gave me a heads up before I got it in the mail. If you need some cooking ideas, Tropical Traditions collected some tasty recipes, including one for gluten-free pizza crust.

Coconut oil can be pricey for the frugal-minded, but thankfully Tropical Traditions is letting me give away a jar to a Frugal Femina reader. Want to win? Check out the details below! And if you ever order from Tropical Traditions, be sure to let them know I sent you by using referral code 5681108. {I must continue to support my habit, you know.}

Hey Katie! Sorry I missed you on the news… I would’ve liked to see that. Any coconut oil that you buy is going to be solid right now, as the temperature affects it. As soon as it gets warm it will soften, and it if gets above 80 it should be liquid. I love making popcorn in coconut oil, too. It’s about the only oil we use anymore. I haven’t had any trouble substituting it in recipes.
