I had mucho morning sickness when I was pregnant with my son. I vomited every day for about 21 weeks. (Do you like how I’m starting out a recipe post with vomit? Forgive me, folks, please!) I lived on protein shakes and sour candy for quite a while. When my stomach finally started turning around, all I wanted was an enormous plate of my mom’s spaghetti. She doesn’t like to cook as much as I do, but she always made yummy meals when we were growing up, and her specialty is definitely spaghetti. It’s one of those things that I just can’t make as well as she can.
So here’s her recipe if you want to give it a shot. It’s not quick, but it’s easy!
- 1 pound of ground beef (Be sure to use your Kroger coupon from here!)
- 2 cans of Mexican stewed tomatoes
- 2 cans of Italian stewed tomatoes
- 2 cans of regular stewed tomatoes
- 1/4 cup of sugar (to taste)
Brown the ground beef and drain.
Add all of the stewed tomatoes.
Cook on medium (around 4) for about 6-8 hours. As my mom says, “until it’s done and you can’t tell the tomatoes from the beef.” You may have to turn it down as the day progresses so it doesn’t get so hot that it sticks to the bottom of the pan. So stir it every once in a while and check. During the last hour or so, stir in about a 1/4 cup of sugar.
And there you have it! My favorite spaghetti sauce in the world. You can top with some shredded cheese. And a little dollop of Daisy never hurt. (Actually, mine is Kroger brand, but I can’t get the Daisy jingle out of my head.)
Enjoy!
