Since Bradley and I toured an apple orchard today and ended up with some fresh apples, I thought I’d try to find some good apple snacks for kiddos. If you know me at all, you know we love our fruit around here. So much so that Bradley only ate half of his apple cider doughnut and then asked for an apple! This may be because all I wanted when I was pregnant with him was fruit. In our house, I have to give him the meat and veggies first and then give him the fruit. Otherwise, that’s all he’ll eat.
Here are a few goodies I found.
Apple Snacks:
Apple Surprise: Cut out the inside of an apple. Remove the core and seeds. Fill the inside with peanut butter, raisins, etc.
Homemade Applesauce: Totally going to do this when I catch a breath at school!
Apple Smoothie: Combine a cored apple, a peeled banana, and 1/2 cup of skimmed milk or gluten-free rice milk in a blender.
Apple Smiles: Spread peanut butter on 2 apple wedges. Top with little marshmallows. Put the wedges together to look like a mouth. The apples are the lips, and the marshmallows are the teeth.
Apple Ladybug: Cut an apple in half. Stick 2 pretzel sticks in the front of each half. Put 2-5 red food coloring dots anywhere on the apple.
Johnny Appleseed: Take 8 apple-cider ice cubes and 1/4 cup of apple cider or water. Blend until slushy. YUM! (My personal favorite.)
Apple Yogurt Dip: Take 1/2 cup plain yogurt, 1/4 tsp. cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract, and combine in a bowl. Slice the apple, and dip!
Apple Popsicles: Mix 2 cups vanilla yogurt and 1 cup of applesauce. Fill Popsicle molds and freeze.
Apple Jello Giggles: A great way to get your kids involved!
Apple Fruit Leather: A twist on applesauce that’s easy!
