As I mentioned on the Frugal Femina Facebook page, I have been a little scarce lately due to some special projects I have taken on. One was teaching Bradley’s VBS class at church. I had 16 little preschoolers in my class, so basically I survived on coffee and Dr. Pepper last week. Whew! {Did I mention it was my first time teaching?!} c-:
I just happened to stumble into Jeff’s site as he was asking for people to apply to be a part of the team. When I read a little about his book, I knew I had to get my hands on a copy–whether I was on the team or not. Thankfully, he did choose me, so I’ve been able to read the entire book before it launches on August 1.
Jeff didn’t set out to write a book. But after hearing stories from all over the globe, he couldn’t not write it. Wrecked tells the stories of people who have experienced all kinds of pain, heartache, and loss, yet they came out of it for the better. It tells the stories of people who have given up comfy, predictable lives to serve in ugly, unpredictable places. It’s inspiring, it’s humbling, it’s eye-opening.
I still remember my third-grade teacher, Mrs. Graff, reading The Owen Boys to us in class.
It’s the story of the Owen family, who move from their farm in Solon, Maine, to Elmwood, 50 miles away. Steve and his younger brother Thad have to drive the cows, Daisy and Bessie, on foot to Elmwood, while the rest of the family rides ahead in the buggy. Lots of adventures happen along the way, like meeting a mysterious stranger who speaks in rhyme, Steve losing his gun, Bessie getting attacked by a bobcat, and more.
The book, written by Hazel Wilson, was published in 1947 by Abingdon-Cokesbury Press, and is filled with character-building lessons and old-fashioned values that are still important for kids today. It is one of my favorite childhood books, and I was so excited to read it to Bradley as a preschooler. He loved it, and I hope we read it many times down the road!

Do you love how I start a fitness challenge and then don’t post any updates? Sometimes, that’s just how I roll, peeps! And that’s why I’m changing this into an ongoing thing instead of just 4 weeks. A coworker and I have teamed up to try to keep each other accountable health-wise. It is so much easier when you have a friend!
So here’s a look at my progress:
To drink 6-8 servings of water each day. I have been averaging about 5 servings each day.
To exercise for 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.
Ummm, notsomuch…
To lose around 5 pounds during the 4 weeks.
I have lost 3.5 pounds. Yippee!!
To watch my Weight Watchers points each day.
Check! That’s how I lost the 3.5 pounds. Yippee again!
To sleep at least 8 hours each night.
I’ve done pretty well with this, although not around July 4th!
To take my vitamins each day.
I haven’t been 100% consistent with this, but I have been taking them more frequently and will keep plugging away. {Just like with my debt-free challenge! I am noticing a theme…}
That’s my update. Not perfect, but certainly some good progress, I think!
